Established in 1955, Plas y Brenin has over 60 years of heritage and is considered by many to be the spiritual home of the outdoors.

The government-backed National Centre has a rich alumni that ensures we have people in positions of influence across the outdoor sector. We develop the people that develop the sector. We train the trainers, developing and assessing instructors, leaders, coaches and guides that operate both professionally and as volunteers. And we develop the skills of individuals so they can operate safely in the mountains and on the water. 

People come from all over the world to work for, and train under, our instructional team, taking their skills and experience to the furthest corners of the world on expeditions and adventures. Plas y Brenin is an iconic brand that has global reach. 

We work with the key outdoor National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport as part of our collective drive to get more people active outdoors. Our influence goes to the heart of government. 

We set the standards for skills and safety, training a diverse range of organisations and personnel that operate in remote outdoor environments. This extends well beyond the outdoor sector and includes emergency and rescue services. 

Being at the pinnacle of outdoor skills, we influence the outdoor sector and provide insight through research projects. We test new concepts, understand the importance of behavior change and are committed to a more inclusive outdoor market.
