Overview
A cluster of shops and businesses in the Ashburton Estate form the backbone of a thriving South London community. In early 2025, local traders, business owners and entrepreneurs launched the Ashburton Business Forum – a new initiative designed to foster networking, idea-sharing and collective regeneration in the area.
Neil Woodward, part of the team at The Yard – a community hub that delivers a range of social programmes – played a key role in organising the Forum’s launch. He said: “There’s an incredible opportunity here for local businesses to come together, support one another and work collectively towards the renewal of the Ashburton estate.”
Digital outreach was used to promote the launch event, with support from neighbouring businesses such as Printing Planet, a local print shop run by Shumail Ahmed. “As a local business, it’s important that we can network with other traders, and also raise awareness of the support available to us through the local authority,” Ahmed added.
Results
The Forum launched with a successful community event, hosted at The Yard on 26 March 2025. The event was attended by local traders, representatives from Wandsworth Council and community leaders. Guests enjoyed a light lunch and participated in an open forum discussing the future of the estate. The digital campaign helped raise awareness and encouraged business owners to connect with one another and join the regeneration effort.
