Communications Manager


Job purpose:

The Communications Manager is responsible for what we say and how we sound in all our communications including our voice in trade and national press, across our own social media channels and publicly on-stage.

This is an incredibly varied and dynamic role.  Expect to juggle spending weeks meticulously planning and writing the release for our annual Adspend report with reacting to numerous inbound press requests for comment from our CEO on the latest brand safety story.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish a consistent tone of voice across all IAB channels: website, social, marketing, press releases, scripts and event presentations

  • Manage the IAB’s social media conversation calendar (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Snapchat)

  • Support the Head of Marketing on the development of the IAB’s content strategy

  • Deliver internal weekly round-up for the IAB team summarising all PR moments

  • Work alongside the IAB’s external production team to write our fortnightly podcast script

  • Manage strategic PR announcements

  • Plan and deliver media partnerships that support our events, research projects and industry groups

  • Proactively identify opportunities for the IAB to speak

  • Build brilliant relationships with trade and national media acting as the first port of call for all press enquiries, determining the relevant importance and defining the angle for briefing the spokesman

  • Identify, write and distribute press releases

  • Work closely with the Events & Education team to produce copy that supports events & training marketing and ticket sales

 

Skills, knowledge & characteristics

  • Around four years in a communications and/or PR role

  • Strong all-round copywriter: everything from tweets to press releases & C-level presentations to podcast scripts

  • A clear written style that supports our belief in making the complex simple

  • Existing relationships with key industry platforms (Campaign, The Drum, Mediatel, Digiday, Marketing Week) preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Highly active across all social media platforms

  • A creative problem solver with an ability to think ‘outside the box’

  • A genuine passion and enthusiasm for digital advertising and it’s future
