Facebook launching standalone event app

The app will be a social media-driven calendar.

Following the success of launching Messenger as a standalone app, Facebook is now leading the way again, and is this time launching an event app.

It is essentially a calendar driven by social media, showing not only events a person has said they're attending, but events tied to pages the user has liked and those their friends are also going to.

In addition, it offers recommendations based on time, location and interest, along with a map that lets people search for nearby events, or events in a specific location. The event app will also be able to incorporate activities from a user's own personal calendar.

Like Messenger, Facebook hopes this app will become a revenue stream in its own right.
