The New Movement's report unpacks the numbers behind entertainment industry trends on social
In this edition of The Drop, The News Movement dives into the Entertainment sector, unpacking the data and cultural shifts shaping the industry on social - spotlighting the trends, platforms, and creators driving conversation and culture.
The first shift we're tracking is video games being adapted into movies. With U.S. consumer spend on video games reaching $58B and titles like Minecraft and Zelda heading to the big screen, the once-niche world of gaming is now dominating mainstream entertainment.
Meanwhile, digital creators are rewriting the script. With YouTube now the most-watched streaming service in the U.S., creators like MrBeast and Ms. Rachel are landing major TV deals, showing just how much influence online talent now has in shaping the entertainment landscape.
Like many other industries, Gen Z is using social media as a discovery tool for entertainment. They’re 95% more likely to start a show or film because it’s trending on social, often led by creator commentary and meme culture.
From emerging content formats like “Internet Reacts To…” to brand strategies tapping into BTS content and creator partnerships, entertainment brands have lots of opportunities to connect with audiences where they are and how they want to be spoken to.
'The Drop' will continue to track emerging trends, and focus on a different industry every issue. If you're interested in learning more, download the full report. And get in touch with us at [email protected] if you have any questions or feedback.
