FC Bayern Munich employs augmented reality for player selfie opportunities

Fans of FC Bayern Munich can now snap a 'selfie' with their favourite players thanks to a new augmented reality-based app from the club.

German football club FC Bayern Munich has launched an innovative new app for its fans that enables them to capture selfies with their favourite players.

The app uses augmented reality technology to allow fans to upload photos of themselves into shots of FC Bayern Munich team members so that it appears the two individuals are standing together in one image.

In addition, app users can personalise the strips that their favourite players are wearing and purchase football shirts through it as well.

Stefan Mennerich, head of media rights and new media at FC Bayern Munich, commented: "It is important to us that we continue to offer these innovative experiences, not only to ensure that we are connecting with our family of fans on all levels, but also to continue advancing digital technology used in the sport sector."
