We've pulled together a handy guide which lays out which training courses, workshops and qualifications are available for you to get to grips with environmental sustainability in our industry


AdNetZero Essentials

Format: 5 online interactive learning modules and a multiple-choice exam

Time Commitment: 8 hours

Cost: £60 (subject to membership)

Includes techniques to measure and reduce carbon emissions related to work produced across the advertising process. Recognises how the industry can promote sustainable behaviour change, and how to avoid greenwashing in advertising.

Change the Brief: Purpose Disruptors 

Format: Pre-recorded sessions which deep dive into key issues by category such as food, fashion and energy. Access to peer-to-peer digital community and resource libraries.

Cost: £65-85 (Level 1 / cost per person based on annual membership)

Aimed at agencies, clients and media owners, this learning programme offers insights and expert advice, at a category level, on how to promote more sustainable choices and behaviours in the industry, in line with a zero-carbon world.

Level 1 is divided into 3 sections - Why #ChangeTheBrief –Understand the climate crisis, How to #ChangeTheBrief – Learn how promote sustainable lifestyles, Let’s ChangeTheBrief – Access a growing library of deep dive category talks

Once completed, you can receive membership to the #ChangeTheBrief Alliance and progress to Level 2 - a face to face offering aiming to work with account teams to embed sustainability thinking and apply it to live briefs.

Format: Pre recorded video content to watch – register to access

Cost: Free

Learn how to decarbonise digital advertising and tackle the world of carbon jargon, greenwashing, offsetting. Reveal the current state of play in the industry and how much it is contributing to the climate crisis.

Format: In person workshop but may be delivered virtually

Time Commitment: 4 hours

A collaborative and engaging workshop to understand the impact of digital technologies on the environment.

It focusses on the key solutions to build a more sustainable digital sector. It then encourages participants to discuss on the topic for fruitful debate.

University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership

Business Sustainability Management 

Format: 8 modules, fully tutored and delivered online. Assessment is continuous and based on a series of practical assignments completed online

Time Commitment: 8-week course, 12-15 hours per week

Cost: £2,200

How to lead and drive sustainability overall (not specifically in relation to the climate) across an organisation. 

Designed to address the growing need and prevalence of sustainability practices in business – giving students the tools to pioneer meaningful change throughout organisations.

Modules include Sustainability Challenges and Opportunities, The Business Case and Leadership for Action, Regulatory Environment and International Policy, Production and Consumption, Design, Technology and Planning for Sustainability, Communication and Marketing, Collaboration and Partnerships and Rewiring your Business Approach
