Founded in 1954 by Sir Arnold Clark, Arnold Clark Automobiles has gone from a single-showroom venture in Glasgow’s West End to a multi-franchise, UK-wide organisation with over 10,000 employees.
The business, named Automotive Management’s Retailer of the Year for 2016, is Europe’s largest car retailer and represents 23 new car franchises in over 200 branches across the UK. It has diversified from car sales to become a multi-discipline organisation, specialising in Servicing and Repairs, Motability, Fleet Sales and Management, Accident Repairs, Vehicle Management, Commercial Vehicle Sales, Parts and Accessories and Insurance Services.
The success of the company can be attributed to its founder, who is still at the helm today. In 2004, Sir Arnold received a Knighthood in the New Year Honours list in recognition of his services to the Motor Industry and his contribution to the Scottish community.
